Cheap Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
Mother’s Day will be here before you know it and it can be hard to think of heartfelt gifts year after year to give one of the greatest people in your life. My mom always says that the only thing she wants for Mother’s Day is to spend time with her children, but it feels good to spoil dear, old mom once in a while. I have come up with ten Mother’s Day gift ideas that will celebrate Mom, while not emptying your wallet.
1. FREE CAR WASH
A deep, thorough Spring car wash is pretty much a requirement for all vehicles, especially if you live in an area with cold winters. Help your mom jump-start her Spring cleaning with a fresh, squeaky clean vehicle. You can either take her vehicle to a car washing service or take the time to do it yourself. Either way, this gift is sure to make her feel appreciated and she will enjoy being able to cross this off her to-do list.
2. Learn Something From Her
My mom loves making homemade wool mittens, growing herbs in her garden and quilting. Gather supplies and spend time together learning one of her favorite past times. She will enjoy spending time with you and teaching you something that you can continue to do together. Not to mention, there is no time like the present to learn something new!
3. Plan a Date Night for her and Dad
Either plan or gift a date night for her and your dad. This could be as simple as a gift card to a restaurant they have been talking or as elaborate as planning a weekend getaway at a bed & breakfast. Offer to take care of younger siblings and house pets while they are away. Father’s Day is in June so if you plan a bigger event for the two of them, make sure to double dip.
4. Groupon
Groupon can be your best friend when gifting experiences for Mother’s Day. Search what activities they have in your local area and choose something that the two of you can do together. Groupon is a great option because there is such a great variety of experiences to choose from, all at a discounted price.
5. Shutterfly Picture Book
Shutterfly picture books are another great option for a cheap Mother’s Day gift. This gift will take some preemptive planning in order to ensure you receive it prior to Mother’s Day. Also, Shutterfly offers different promotions throughout the year so be sure to create your photo book during a sale. This is the only tangible item on this list, but the amount of thought and time that goes into this gift makes it special and personalized.
6. Plant Flowers Together
This is personally what my mom and I have done together for the past few years. Each year we go flower shopping (flowers are on me of course!) and then go back to my parent’s house and spend the afternoon planting them. Having this tradition has been fun because each year we try different flowers and get to watch them grow throughout the summer months.
7. Send a Hand Written Letter
This is a sweet option for a mom that doesn’t live close by. Everyone loves getting something to open in the mail, that doesn’t require a check sent in return. Writing a letter will be sure to warm your mom’s heart and something that she will keep for a long time to come.
8. Personalized Bottle of Wine
There are a lot of personalized wine bottle ideas to choose from on Pinterest. If your mom is a wine drinker this may be the Mother’s Day gift for her. Create a label that represents her personality or that makes her laugh and she may even end up letting you drink it with her!
9. Gift Card for Nail Salon
I have also used this idea for a past Mother’s Day. I gifted my mom a gift card for the amount of two manicures and pedicures. We scheduled a day to go together and spent the time bonding and getting our nails ready for summer. This idea was super fun and a way to spoil a mom that doesn’t spoil herself. I feel like it would also be a good way to spend time with a boyfriend or husbands mother.
10. Just Spend Time Together
All of these ideas have one running theme: spend time with your mom on Mother’s Day. Gifts are awesome, but the gift of time and memories is something that will last longer than any tangible item. Love on your mom and let her know how much you appreciate everything she has done for you!
